In the novel "A Thousand Splendid Suns", by Khaled Hosseini uses literary elements, through out this he is able to portray the horrific acts of domestic violence that has taken place in the Middle Eastern. He uses imagery as a main device that describes the feelings, specially the ones that women have to go through. Throughout the novel Hosseini describes how the life's of Mariam and Laila is and how they have to go through the violence of their husband. The way that Hoesseini describes  the scenes that occurred, it really captures and engages the readers attention to the point that can make the reader feel the pain and feel it alife. The way that the author words the scenes and describes the actions happening it could be gruesome..."delivering a kick to the flank that would have Laila pissing blood for days"(pg 272) it delivers a clear understanding of the action and makes the reader clearly understand. All of this is accomplished by the wording that Hosseini uses that makes the novel have a good imagery making it stand out with all the issues that happened back in the days. Also he uses the imagery to bring out reality of this day to day issue. Throught the use of the literary device Husseini accomplish his purpose of creating an imagery on the readers mind, and more then an imagery feel the pain of the women in this case Mariam and Laila.

In Khaled Hoseeini's erotic novel "A Thousand Splendid Suns"' the setting in this novel has plays a major role on the way that the author expresses the differences between the genders, and the way they were treated in the Middle Eastern. Hosseini uses the way women and men are treated throughout the war that it's taking place. It may not seem as a big deal or something to be important, but it takes a big role and makes many differences. The differences can cause so many things, so many ways that women are treated differently than men and that could cause a lot of harm. " You would not laugh in public, if not you would be beaten.. if you are found guilty of adultery, you would be stone to death"(pg 278) Simple things like this could cause somebody’s life. All this rules took away women freedom of being able to do what they want or more then that not letting them do nothing at all. Because of this rules women had to live with the fear of trying to do everything exact , everything perfect fearing for their life. This doesn't really affect the men at all it just demonstrate the differences between women and men and how men have more freedom. Although it may seem like a lie There's a lot of countries in middle Eastern that differences like this still exist. It is really sad but its reality. the author accomplish to create the inequality of gender taken place during this war by the setting that is being exposed in this novel.
